Lifelong Learner

Passionate for Discovery

When we first moved to central Alberta I used to stop by our city college and watch the glass blowing artists.  There was an open air room beside the grassed area, where the hot glass students made their creations.  When I was in my 20’s and 30’s, I made a living making stained glass.

I found it so hypnotizing. I had seen glass blowing on TV, although never had the desire to learn, but I loved to watch it and still do.   (There is a glass blowing competition show on Netflix called Blown Away)

While on my ‘bucket list’ trip in April 2025, my husband and I drove down the west coast from Washington to northern California.  I knew there were hot glass shops that offered short classes in Oregon.  The last few days in Newport, I decided that I should book a class.  I am so glad that I did!

Here is the creation Jeff Hayek at the Hot Shop, helped me to create.

He was patient instructor and a very down to earth and kind person.  If you are ever in Newport, I would strongly recommend visiting his shop.
